I had to uninstall OS updates for SP1 because it was killing this AMD system. If the hardware were failing then I'd expect to see all kinds of wacky behavior and some BSODs. But i've noticed that many services are needed for various functions and im not used to messing with that stuff. Also if you have CCleaner check your registry files and there's also a startup, like msconfig that might be able to tell you something. The one that I fixed with the security settings problem I had to use command line instructions (type the fix into the command box).
