This is how I originally discovered this issue (keyboard/touchpad not working). Toshiba Laptop Keyboard Some Keys Not Working And people who know their stuff (or so it seems anyway). Go to the synaptic touchpad icon, click or right click.... It was horrible for me, 'cause keyboard was disabled only 2 seconds after boot, so I can't start windows in safe mode or other solution.

It could be a driver issue and i would try that before spending money on new parts.
Hit CTRL + ALT + DEL .... I noticed yesterday that my touchpad and keyboard didn't work. It recently suffered a dramatic and total failure from which I needed to return it to a factory re-set. It mentions 2 registries to change, I only changed the first and it's perfectly fine now. Somehow I guess I uninstalled the laptop keyboard & touchpad because they no longer appeared in device manager. Why does the mouse freeze like that? This did the trick for me!!!!!
